description Introduction: In interns at the hospital, there is a lack of clinical competencies, as their inability to take initiative, make accurate diagnoses, and address patient concerns due to their limited clinical judgment was observed. This is a problem both professionally and personally, as it indicates a lack of organization due to poor communication among colleagues. Additionally, the actions of the professional are perceived as unsafe and unreliable behaviors, demonstrating a rational crisis that impacts the population. Objective: To determine the relationship between metacognitive strategies and the development of clinical competencies in Obstetrics interns at a national hospital in Lima, 2022. Materials and Methods: This is a quantitative, basic, correlational, cross-sectional study with a non-experimental design and simple random sampling. The population consisted of 90 interns, and a sample of 73 was taken. To measure the variable of metacognitive strategies, the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (Schraw and Dennison, 1994) was used, and for the variable of clinical competencies, the questionnaire proposed by Villar (2016) was employed. Excel and SPSS V22 were used for data processing and statistical analysis. Results: 67.1% of the interns exhibit a high level of both metacognitive strategy use and development of clinical competencies. Furthermore, it was confirmed that there is a direct and significant influence of metacognitive strategies on the development of clinical competencies, with a Spearman's rho of 0.647 and significance (p<0.05). Conclusions: Therefore, a greater application of metacognitive strategies leads to a greater development of clinical competencies in interns, enabling them to successfully navigate the professional field.
