Sumario:Objective: To determine the efficacy of the use of misoprostol for the treatment of abortions less than 12 weeks of gestation in patients attended in the Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency room of a Maternal and Child Hospital of Honduras, 2019. Material and methods: Through a descriptive study cross-sectional, prospective study, in a sample of 155 patients treated at the Tegucigalpa Maternal and Child Hospital, from May to July 2019, through a probability sampling for convenience and using a structured survey. Obstetric, pathological history, misoprostol dose, time of effectiveness, side effects or complications, and prevalence of abortions were evaluated. Results: The average maternal age that presented the highest number of cases of abortion was 24 years, with 18-29 being the most affected age group, 73.55%. In the gynecological and obstetric antecedents identified, the first-born, primiparous, and with no history of abortions prevailed; while the pathological history such as hypertensive disorders, thyroid, type 2 diabetes mellitus and immunological diseases were not significant. Conclusion: The use of misoprostol in first trimester abortions is effective; its side effects do not produce significant complications and are tolerable; the first dose being the most effective and after one day after administration for the complete expulsion of the product.
