Currently, movies constitute an important source for studying contemporary history, although they have been used very little by researchers who are interested in the history of Peru. This article aims to fill in that vacuum.Este artículo analiza, desde la perspectiva de la historia social, tres filmes que pueden considerarse paradigmáticos de la historia del cine peruano, Yo perdí mi corazón en Lima (1933), Kukuli (1961) y Muerte al amanecer (1977), a partir de los postulados teóricos de investigadores como Marc Ferro y de la Cinematic Contextual History. En la actualidad, las películas constituyen una fuente importante para el estudio de la historia contemporánea, aunque han sido poco usadas por los investigadores interesados en la historia de nuestro país.
