Descripción
Sumario:The marble industry in Mexico had faced problems in the extraction and transformation of the stone, affecting its workers and the environment. Based on 15 variables of the Evaluation of Management Systems Incorporating Sustainability Indicators (MESMIS), this qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research recognized factors, limitations and opportunities of the processes along labor, economic, and environmental indicators. In 2022 a survey applied to 123 (11 owners, 112 workers) of three marble companies from the Mixteca region of Mexico, showed that this industry is ranked as «barely sustainable», and suggests the need of an integration between labor-productive activities, technological development and the socio-environment measures.
