The choice to understand the productions on personalized education specifically in higher education arises from the need to delve deeply into the field and understand the type of personalized education discussed in the literature. When searching for texts that address this methodology, we noticed that there are several "synonyms" for personalized education. These have definitions that are distinct from one another, but are often treated as synonyms, which leads to a series of problems involving the understanding of the term. We present summaries of 12 works found and classify them as theoretical or empirical.En este estudio de carácter bibliográfico, analizamos las definiciones y concepciones de la educación personalizada en la educación superior, a partir de textos internacionales indexados en la base de datos ERIC. La decisión de investigar la educación personalizada, específicamente en la educación superior, surge de la necesidad de profundizar en la comprensión del campo y del tipo de educación personalizada que se discute en la literatura. El análisis de los estudios reveló el uso recurrente de múltiples términos tratados como “sinónimos” de la educación personalizada, a pesar de presentar definiciones conceptualmente distintas. El principal hallazgo de la investigación indica que esta multiplicidad terminológica genera ambigüedades teóricas y confusiones conceptuales, especialmente en la distinción entre educación personalizada, aprendizaje adaptativo e individualización. Se analizaron 12 trabajos, los cuales fueron clasificados como investigaciones teóricas o empíricas.Neste artigo de cunho bibliográfico, analisam-se as definições e concepções de educação personalizada no ensino superior, a partir de textos internacionais indexados na base de dados ERIC. A opção por investigar a educação personalizada especificamente no ensino superior decorre da necessidade de aprofundar a compreensão do campo e do tipo de educação personalizada que vem sendo discutido na literatura. Ao analisar os estudos, identificou-se o uso recorrente de diversos termos tratados como “sinônimos” da educação personalizada, embora apresentem definições conceitualmente distintas. A principal descoberta da pesquisa evidencia que essa multiplicidade terminológica gera ambiguidades teóricas e confusões conceituais, sobretudo na distinção entre educação personalizada, aprendizagem adaptativa e individualização.
