In this regard, the research conducted offers a synthesis of the most important points derived from the resolutions issued by the highest Peruvian electoral authority ?Jurado Nacional de Elecciones? regarding various cases of vacancy and suspension of such authorities. The objective is to provide an overview of the most transcendental elements regarding the vacancy and suspension, such as their causes, legal procedures, their regulation, their consequences and the challenges they present. Finally, it is highlighted that both the Organic Law of Regional Governments and the Organic Law of Municipalities could benefit from improvements in their regulation. These improvements would ultimately contribute to a more efficient management and operation of regional and municipal governments.El presente trabajo examina la vacancia y la suspensión de autoridades regionales y locales en el Perú, bajo un enfoque jurisprudencial. Así, la investigación realizada ofrece una síntesis de los puntos más significativos derivados de las resoluciones emitidas por el Jurado Nacional de Elecciones (JNE) referentes a diversos casos de vacancia y suspensión de dichas autoridades. El objetivo es proporcionar un panorama general de los elementos más trascendentales sobre la vacancia y suspensión como sus causales, los procedimientos legales, su regulación, las consecuencias y los desafíos que presentan. Finalmente, se destaca que tanto la Ley Orgánica de Gobiernos Regionales como la Ley Orgánica de Municipalidades podrían beneficiarse de mejoras en su regulación.
