This study presents data on the level of corruption worldwide, detailing how it has progressed during globalization, and analyzing its impact on democracy, particularly in Latin America. It also assesses the role of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the perspective of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in fighting corruption. The conclusion drawn by the author is that we need a collaborative global approach to understand and combat corruption from all angles.El presente artículo aborda el tema de la corrupción y, aunque no busca cubrir todos los aspectos sobre este asunto, si pretende contribuir con la creación de una política nacional que se alinee con las recientes regulaciones internacionales anticorrupción. Este estudio describe la preeminencia de este fenómeno con datos que permiten cuantificar el nivel de la corrupción alrededor del mundo. Además de ello, se detalla su progresión durante la globalización, así como su repercusión en la democracia, particularmente en América Latina. Igualmente, se analiza el papel de la Convención de las Naciones Unidas contra la Corrupción (UNCAC) y se evalúa la perspectiva del Foro de Cooperación Económica del Asia-Pacífico (APEC) en su lucha contra este fenómeno.
