The author begins the article by analyzing the issues addressed in the ISHR from its beginnings to the present day, highlighting that the bodies of the ISHR have transcended from focusing on the reparation of victims to the establishment of principles and standards that strengthen the protection of human rights. The author also analyzes the role of the ISHR bodies with respect to civil society activism in the area of human rights by virtue of the repercussions of the cases and situations on which they rule. It also reflects on the political debates that have arisen as a result of the recognition of rights and their positioning on the OAS agenda. Finally, the author analyzes the balance and imbalance between the political and judicial roles within the ISHR, as well as the effectiveness of the decisions issued by the bodies of the ISHR and their articulation in the national justice systems.El presente artículo presenta un panorama general sobre las principales discusiones que tienen lugar tanto en el interior de los órganos interamericanos como de la comunidad de derechos humanos acerca del rol del SIDH en el escenario político-regional. El autor comienza el artículo abordando las materias abordadas en el SIDH desde sus inicios hasta la actualidad; destacando que los órganos del SIDH han trascendido de enfocarse en la reparación de las víctimas hacia el establecimiento de principios y estándares que fortalezcan la protección de los derechos humanos. El autor analiza el rol de los órganos del SIDH respecto al activismo de la sociedad civil en materia de derechos humanos en virtud a la repercusión de los casos y situaciones sobre los que se pronuncian. Asimismo, se reflexiona sobre los debates políticos surgidos en virtud al reconocimiento de derechos y su posicionamiento en la agenda de la OEA.
