In the Peruvian-Ecuadorian case, the conflictive resolution of border disputes created strong nationalist feelings - and other milder ones - as well as bilateral, border relations and fluid exchanges in various fields.In that sense, the main objective of this article was to analyze the weight of national feelings in the perceptions of Peruvians towards Ecuadorians in the period 1990-2015. For this, public opinion polls conducted in the mentioned time cut were analyzed. In addition, semi-structured interviews were applied to merchants and professors from the schools of Zarumilla and Aguas Verdes. The analysis showed not only a positive evolution of the perceptions and opinions that Peruvians in the province of Zarumilla have regarding Ecuadorians. It also revealed that, from the shared border context, nationalism is not a significant influence factor in the opinions and perceptions of Peruvians towards Ecuadorians. On the contrary, it is affected, profiled and modified by cross-border interaction. Nationalisms in that border area are not confrontational.Los nacionalismos vienen desarrollándose desde los sucesivos procesos de demarcación de territorios y el establecimiento de puntos fronterizos. En el caso peruano-ecuatoriano, la resolución conflictiva de las disputas limítrofes, creó sentimientos nacionalistas fuertes -y otros más leves- así como originó relaciones bilaterales, fronterizas e intercambios fluidos en varios ámbitos. En ese sentido, el objetivo central de este artículo fue analizar el peso de los sentimientos nacionales en el cambio de las percepciones de los peruanos hacia los ecuatorianos en el periodo 1990-2015. Para ello se analizaron encuestas de opinión pública realizadas en el recorte de tiempo mencionado. Asimismo, fueron aplicadas entrevistas semi-estructuradas a comerciantes y profesores de los colegios de Zarumilla y Aguas Verdes.El análisis mostró no sólo una evolución positiva de las percepciones y opiniones que tienen los peruanos de la provincia de Zarumilla respecto de los ecuatorianos. También que, a partir del contexto fronterizo compartido, el nacionalismo no es un factor de influencia significativa en las opiniones y percepciones de los peruanos hacia los ecuatorianos. Por el contrario, es una variable afectada, perfilada y modificada por la interacción transfronteriza.
