Beyond that case’s specific points of contention, the importance of the prestige and honor of an extremely skilled worker in the context of an Ancien Regime society is also discussed.El artículo parte del análisis de un litigio para considerar las peculiares situaciones por las cuales una orden religiosa acabó siendo dueña del oficio de ensayador de Real Casa de Moneda de México, la actitud de los ministros del rey al respecto, así como la condición legal, derechos y formas de retribución de los tenientes que materialmente desempeñaban esta labor.
