Some of these children joined the Peruvian resistance and suffered reprisals from the occupying authorities. In general terms, children were the victims made invisible by the Chileanization campaign, and also victims of the Peruvian government’s failure to guarantee their protection.La infancia de Tacna y Arica jugó un rol fundamental durante la ocupación chilena. Los niños fueron vistos como futuros votantes en un eventual plebiscito, por lo que se hizo indispensable su alfabetización y adhesión cultural. De allí que el manejo de su educación fue motivo de constante disputa. Algunos, desde muy niños, actuaron en la resistencia peruana y padecieron represalias de las autoridades ocupantes.
