During the 18th century, this community experienced important changes in its composition, related to some extent to ecclesiastical secularization and the Bourbon Reforms. This article seeks to contribute to the debate on the impact of the Enlightenment on colonial Spanish America.Este artículo recupera viejas y nuevas propuestas de la historia cultural y la historia literaria aplicadas al estudio de la República de las Letras en la Francia prerrevolucionaria; trasladando estas al espacio de la Nueva España con la finalidad de trazar la «anatomía» o el perfil socioprofesional de los autores novohispanos. A lo largo del siglo XVIII, esta comunidad experimentó cambios significativos en su composición, relacionados en cierta medida con la secularización eclesiástica y el reformismo borbónico.
