Descripción
Sumario:This article will review the process of debates and consensus that have been built over the last decades regarding four fundamental issues: i. the responsibility that companies have under international human rights law; ii. the universal application of these responsibilities —beyond their place of origin or the place where their activities are carried out— and the range of rights that these responsibilities encompass; iii. the duty of States to prevent, punish and remedy abuses committed by companies to the detriment of people, communities and/or the environment; and, finally, iv. Given the transnational nature of the problem, the need to monitor and ensure that the behavior of companies, beyond their national borders, conforms to the requirements imposed by their obligation to respect human rights.
