Traducida por un hombre de letras parisino, cuyas necesidades laborales estaban sujetas en parte a las exigencias de un público mundano, la primera versión francesa desplazó la obra del Inca Garcilaso hacia otro régimen historiográfico basado en un proceso de conversión social, además de cultural, del texto original.
