Five maps describe territories in America, the subject of this essay. The objective of this article is to make a contextualized reading of the French perspective in the process of Iberian colonization in America.El Atlas Vallard es un atlas-libro de doble hoja, con quince mapas y hojas de información náutica que se encuentra en la Huntington Library, en San Marino, California. Rico en iconografía, abundante en rosas de los vientos y con una amplia lista de topónimos de la costa, en la primera hoja lleva la descripción “Nicolas Vallard de Dieppe, 1547”. Cinco mapas describen territorios de América, tema de este ensayo. El objetivo de este artículo es hacer una lectura contextualizada de la perspectiva francesa en el proceso de colonización ibérica en América.O Atlas Vallard é um livro-atlas de folha dupla, com quinze mapas e folhas de informações náuticas, pertence à Biblioteca Huntington, San Marino, Califórnia. Rico em iconogra?a, abundante em rosas dos ventos e com uma vasta lista de topônimos na costa, a primeira folha traz a descrição “Nicolas Vallard de Dieppe, 1547”. Cinco mapas descrevem territórios na América, o tema deste ensaio.
