Urban solid waste management represents a challenge for protecting the environment and improving population well-being in Latin America. This study analyzed how urban solid waste management can affect quality of life in Peru and other countries in the region between 2020 and 2025. A systematic review of articles was conducted following the PRISMA protocol, using the Scopus, SciELO, and ScienceDirect databases and applying inclusion criteria based on language and year of publication. Of a total of 110 articles identified, 30 studies corresponding to six Latin American countries were selected. The results indicate that insufficient available infrastructure, governance problems, and lack of funding affect service efficiency and social well-being. In addition, innovative experiences were identified, such as community composting, biodigestion, and environmental education programs. Finally, it is concluded that proper solid waste management contributes to sustainable development. |

Este estudio analizó cómo la gestión de los residuos sólidos urbanos puede afectar la calidad de vida en Perú y otros países de la región, entre 2020 y 2025. Se realizó una revisión sistemática de artículos siguiendo el protocolo PRISMA, utilizando las bases de datos Scopus, SciELO y ScienceDirect, y aplicando criterios de inclusión basados en el idioma y el año de publicación. De un total de 110 artículos encontrados, se seleccionaron 30 estudios correspondientes a seis países de Latinoamérica. Los resultados indican que la insuficiente infraestructura disponible, los problemas de gobernanza y la escasez de financiamiento afectan la eficiencia del servicio y el bienestar social. Además, se identificaron experiencias innovadoras, como el compostaje comunitario, la biodigestión y los programas de educación ambiental. Finalmente, se concluye que el manejo adecuado de los residuos sólidos coadyuva al desarrollo sostenible.A gestão de resíduos sólidos urbanos representa um desafio para a proteção do meio ambiente e a melhoria do bem-estar da população na América Latina. Este estudo analisou como a gestão de resíduos sólidos urbanos pode afetar a qualidade de vida no Peru e em outros países da região entre 2020 e 2025. Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática de artigos seguindo o protocolo PRISMA, utilizando as bases de dados Scopus, SciELO e ScienceDirect e aplicando critérios de inclusão baseados no idioma e no ano de publicação. De um total de 110 artigos identificados, foram selecionados 30 estudos correspondentes a seis países latino-americanos. Os resultados indicam que a infraestrutura disponível insuficiente, problemas de governança e falta de financiamento afetam a eficiência dos serviços e o bem-estar social. Além disso, foram identificadas experiências inovadoras, como compostagem comunitária, biodigestão e programas de educação ambiental.
