Descripción
Sumario:This article analyzes the social uprising of July 11 and 12, 2021 (11J) in Cuba as a turning point in the negotiation of the pact of domination. It focuses on the testimonies of political prisoners and their families, the discourse of official media outlets, the court records of the 11J trials, and Facebook posts published by the mothers of political prisoners, with particular emphasis on relationships of discursive cooperation. The negotiation of the pact of domination after 11J unfolds as the initial demands of the uprising extend beyond those who were judicialized and narratives of resistance emerge among new actors. Ultimately, the criminalization of dissent becomes the factor that radicalizes these actors and keeps the negotiation of the pact alive. The findings indicate that the negotiation of the pact of domination operates through two complementary approaches: criminalization and resistance. These approaches, in their conflictual relationship, should not be understood as a binary opposition, but rather as a complex network of contentious relations.
