The conclusion is that health systems are pluralistic structures where modern medicine is only a component.Este trabajo constituye una reflexión acerca de la relación entre cultura y salud y la medida en que la primera determina la concepción y la práctica en el campo de la segunda. Se establece una comparación entre medicina tradicional y medicina occidental y la práctica de sus representantes: el curandero y el médico respectivamente. Se discute la posibilidad de rescatar un saber ancestral que es una fuente potencial para la investigación psicológica.
