The introduction of automation in production during the First Industrial Revolution marked a before and after in history. In this framework, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) are the drivers of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), as a technological breakthrough that promises even more automation. The goal is to understand the scope of Industry 4.0 and its impact on employment and the economy. To gather relevant information on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its impact on employment, a literature review was conducted. After the research conducted, it can be stated that Industry 4.0 aims to automate production to increase precision and efficiency, although it also brings with it problems such as unemployment and the disappearance of jobs. In this sense, policies such as income redistribution, universal basic income and training in new skills are alternatives to deal with this phenomenon.
