description Introduction: experimentation is an essential tool in learning, allowing an explanation of how knowledge integrates within a scientific academic community. Objective: to analyze the perception of students, teachers, and administrative staff regarding the delivery of practical classes in General Chemistry through virtual modality (use of laboratories) at the State University of the Santa Elena Peninsula (UPSE) in Santa Elena, Ecuador, amidst the health emergency caused by COVID-19 during 2020. Methodology: a mixed approach with an exploratory scope was employed, utilizing survey techniques with an instrument consisting of 15 parametric questions (10 closed-ended and 5 open-ended), exhibiting a reliability of 0.767 in Cronbach's Alpha; the research was non-experimental, adopting a cross-sectional cohort, encompassing the entire sample (133 individuals). Results: Over 50% of educational stakeholders encountered difficulties adapting to the new educational system, highlighting the limited use of ICT. Conclusion: the COVID-19 pandemic exposed certain institutions' lack of readiness for remote learning, unveiling numerous challenges when transitioning from in-person to virtual classes across the educational community. While the quarantine was initially a temporary measure, it has been regarded as a starting point to envision the future of higher education, where virtuality could establish itself as a new norm.

Objetivo: Analizar la percepción de estudiantes, docentes y personal administrativo en cuanto a la impartición de clases prácticas de la asignatura de Química General mediante la modalidad virtual (uso de laboratorios) en la Universidad Estatal Península de Santa Elena (UPSE) (Santa Elena, Ecuador) ante la emergencia sanitaria causada por el COVID -19 durante el 2020; Metodología: se utilizó enfoque Mixto con alcance exploratorio, se aplicó la técnica de la encuesta, con un instrumento compuesto de 15 preguntas paramétricas (10 cerradas y 5 abiertas), con una fiabilidad de 0,767 en Alfa Cronbach; la investigación fue de carácter no experimental, con cohorte transversal, se aplicó al total de la muestra (133 personas); Resultados: más del 50% de los actores educativos presentaron dificultades para adaptarse al nuevo sistema educativo, evidenciando la escasa utilización de TIC. Conclusión: la pandemia del COVID-19 puso de manifiesto la falta de preparación de ciertas instituciones para el aprendizaje remoto, revelando numerosos desafíos al trasladar las clases presenciales a un entorno virtual en toda la comunidad educativa. Aunque la cuarentena se impuso como medida temporal, se ha considerado como un punto de partida para vislumbrar el futuro de la educación superior, donde la virtualidad podría establecerse como una nueva norma.Introdução: a experimentação é uma ferramenta essencial na aprendizagem, permitindo explicar como o conhecimento se integra em uma comunidade acadêmica científica. Objetivo: analisar a percepção de estudantes, professores e pessoal administrativo em relação à ministração de aulas práticas da disciplina de Química Geral por meio da modalidade virtual (uso de laboratórios) na Universidade Estadual da Península de Santa Elena (UPSE) em Santa Elena, Equador, diante da emergência sanitária causada pela COVID-19 durante 2020. Metodologia: foi utilizado um enfoque misto com alcance exploratório, empregando a técnica de pesquisa por meio de um instrumento composto por 15 perguntas paramétricas (10 fechadas e 5 abertas), com uma confiabilidade de 0,767 no Alfa de Cronbach; a pesquisa foi não experimental, com uma coorte transversal, aplicada a toda a amostra (133 indivíduos). Resultados: Mais de 50% dos agentes educacionais enfrentaram dificuldades para se adaptar ao novo sistema educacional, evidenciando a utilização limitada de TIC. Conclusão: a pandemia da COVID-19 expôs a falta de preparação de certas instituições para a aprendizagem remota, revelando inúmeros desafios ao transicionar de aulas presenciais para um ambiente virtual em toda a comunidade educativa.
