This finding simplifies our surgical disconnection procedure because now it is not necessary the ligation of the splenic artery. At the present time the gastroepiploic artery can be also used in another surgical procedures.Controlar por medio de estudios con radioisótopos, a nuestros pacientes operados con el tipo de técnica de desconección porta ácigos, descrita por nosotros en 1981, encontramos que a pesar de la ligadura de la arteria esplénica y de los vasos cortos, la circulación arterial del bazo no presentaba ninguna alteración. Debido a ello, iniciamos un trabajo de investigación anatómica que determinó que este órgano recibe además de la circulación de la arteria esplénica, irrigación arterial proveniente de la arteria gastroepiploíca izquierda, situación que no sido descrita hasta esta fecha.En consecuencia y en la actualidad, nuestra operación técnicamente se ha simplificado, ya que ahora sólo seccionamos los vasos gástricos izquierdos y los vasos cortos y efectuamos luego la sutura hemostática del estómago, sin realizar la ligadura de la arteria esplénica.Señalamos además, otras interesantes opciones quirúrgicas que se pueden ejecutar, utilizando la arteria gastroepiploíca izquierda.Universidad de San Martín de Porres.
