On the basis of aglobalized context in the understanding of health, conceptual bases of health care are examined from a multidimensionalperspective that incorporates the challenges of wellbeing, identifying the current critical knots whose improvement wouldfacilitate a rout to the integral care postulated by the person-centered medicine. This renewed paradigm requires to startwith detection and diagnosis linking both physical and mental health as a dynamic unit. To reach such purpose,information about mental health and its management within the health services is presented to, finally, suggest a careframe adequate to postulates of the person-centered medicine.El presente artículo está orientado a fundamentar la importancia del rol de los médicos no psiquiatras en laintegración de la atención de la salud física con la salud mental, como una unidad en la que ambas muestran un impactorecíproco. A partir de la comprensión de la salud en un contexto globalizado, se examinan las bases conceptuales de laatención en salud desde un enfoque multidimensional que incorpora los desafíos del bienestar identificando los nudoscríticos vigentes cuya superación facilitaría una ruta hacia el cuidado integral postulado por la medicina centrada en lapersona. Este paradigma renovado necesita iniciarse con la detección y el diagnóstico, asociando la salud física y mentalcomo una unidad dinámica.
