Therefore, I use as theoretical contribution the concepts of coloniality of power, of knowing and of being, and of geopolitics of knowledge, present no thought of Quijano (2005, 2009), Mignolo (2003) and Maldonado-Torres (2009), bem as a contribution of post-colonial intellectuals, such as Bhabha (2005) and Said (1995). At the beginning, on board or in the historical context that helped to “promote” or the succession of Carmen to the United States and to the stereotyped condition that the singer and actress became known during her stay in America. To follow, I dialogue with the positions of two thinkers cited and as considerations on the role of the Hollywood industry as an instrument of affirmation of "colonial difference". At the end of the year, I focus on the needs of Public Policies for the confrontation of the coloniality of the modern / colonial image, taking into account not only the economic field, but, mainly, the city of symbolic dimensions.Este artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre o papel da indústria de Hollywood como instrumento da colonialidade na América Latina, durante a Política da “Boa Vizinhança”, a partir da atuação de Carmen Miranda em filmes de Hollywood. Para tanto, utilizo como contribuição teórica os conceitos de colonialidade do poder, do saber e do ser, e da geopolítica do conhecimento, presentes no pensamento de Quijano (2005, 2009), Mignolo (2003) e Maldonado-Torres (2009), bem como a contribuição de intelectuais pós-coloniais, como Bhabha (2005) e Said (1995). A princípio, abordo o contexto histórico que ajudou a “impulsionar” o sucesso de Carmen nos Estados Unidos e a condição estereotipada de que a cantora e atriz tornou-se refém durante sua estada na América. A seguir, dialogo com os posicionamentos dos pensadores citados e as considerações sobre o papel da indústria hollywoodiana como instrumento de afirmação da “diferença colonial”. Ao final, aponto a necessidade das Políticas Públicas para o enfrentamento dessa colonialidade do imaginário moderno / colonial, levando em consideração não apenas o campo econômico, mas, principalmente o cidadão e as dimensões simbólicas.Universidad San Martín de Porres.
