The Protomedicato Tribunal was created in Spain in 1442, and it was instituted in Peru in 1570, located in Lima. The first Peruvian medical officer was Dr. Francisco Bermejo y Roldan, who was born in Lima. This historical review complies and analyzes the history of Protomedicato in Peru.En los tiempos del Imperio Español, nace el Protomedicato en las llamadas “indias” o colonias españolas. Antes de la Conquista no existía ninguna institución que regulara el ejercicio de la medicina occidental, por lo que muchos se improvisaban en este campo que, por cierto podía ser muy lucrativo. No se sabe a ciencia cierta en qué momento, la regulación de la medicina comenzó a tener el nombre de Protomedicato. El Tribunal del Protomedicato, institución creada en España en 1442, fue establecido en el Virreinato del Perú en 1570, tuvo su sede en Lima. El primer protomédico peruano fue el doctor Francisco Bermejo y Roldán, natural de Lima.
