RESULTS: From 2222 abortions, 325 ocurred in adolescents with incidence 14,7% largest age group was 17 to 19 years (73,6%); 59,4% had less than 12 weeks of gestation. Most frequent diagnosis was incomplete abortion (67,1%), 12,8% admitted abortion manuevers and 9,4% had a previous pregnancy. The most frequent complications on admission were anemia in 54,1% and urinary tract infection in 19,4%. CONCLUSION: Abortion in adolescents ocurred in late adolescence and the most frequent complication was acute anemia. OBJETIVO: Determinar la incidencia, características sociodemográficas y  complicaciones del aborto en los adolescentes. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo, tipo serie de casos, realizado en el Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia, entre los años 2000 y 2003. RESULTADOS: De un total de 2222 abortos, 325 correspondieron a adolescentes. La incidencia en adolescentes fue de 14,7%.La mayoría se concentró en el grupo de edad de 17 a 19 años (73,6%). El 59,4% interrumpió su embarazo antes de las 12 semanas. El diagnóstico de egreso más frecuente fue aborto incompleto (67,1%): 12,8% aceptó haberse sometido a maniobras abortivas y un 9,4% había tenido su embarazo anterior. Las complicaciones más frecuentes al ingreso fueron la anemia en 54,1% e infección de la vía urinaria en 9,4%.
