It is concluded that effective measures and methods to diminish the prevalence and morbi-mortality of type 2 diabetes mellitus are available under the current circumstances.Se revisan los aspectos de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) que pueden ser motivo de prevención, y permitan una disminución de la prevalencia y morbimortalidad por esta enfermedad en el momento actual. Estudio descriptivo, transversal, en el que se revisan los aspectos y métodos que previenen tanto el desarrollo de esta enfermedad, así como de sus manifestaciones crónicas, complicaciones agudas y morbilidades conexas.
