The methodology used is the semiotics of passions from the perspective of the modal logic of Fontanille, the same that allows detecting the «affective effects» resulting from the opposition between social modalization and individual modalization, the first represented in the conventions of the conservative and traditionalist Arequipa society of the 18th century and, the second, in the principles of the Enlightenment that highlight the value of the individual, introduced in the story by Enrique Ibáñez character.El presente artículo es un análisis semiótico del personaje de Josefa Saucedo, protagonista de la novela Las Saucedo (2015) de la escritora arequipeña Zoila Vega Salvatierra.
