Los organismos internacionales ya son conscientes de que la educación ambiental y la formación de ciudadanos responsables con su medio, jugará un papel importante en los próximos años en la conservación del medio ambiente y posiblemente, su rescate. La educación ambiental, como proceso formativo, informará a los ciudadanos sobre la realidad ambiental en la que nos encontramos, sensibilizándolos para asumir un rol protagónico de cambio, capaz de promover y crear estrategias para el cuidado y protección de su medio ambiente.
