Grant N? 06-2019-FONDECYT-BM-INC.INV.The current pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has put public health at risk, being wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) a potential tool in the detection, prevention, and treatment of present and possible future outbreaks, since this virus enters wastewater through various sources such as feces, vomit, and sputum. Thus, advanced technologies such as advanced oxidation processes (AOP), membrane technology (MT) are identified through a systematic literature review as an alternative option for the destruction and removal of emerging contaminants (drugs and personal care products) released mainly by infected patients. The objectives of this review are to know the implications that the new COVID-19 outbreak is generating and will generate in water compartments, as well as the new challenges faced by wastewater treatment plants due to the change in a load of contaminants and the solutions proposed based on the aforementioned technologies to be applied to preserve public health and the environment. © 2021 Elsevier LtdConsejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica - ConcytecengElsevier LtdBioresource Technology Reportsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Wastewater-based epidemiologyAdvanced oxidation process-1Advanced oxidation process-1Polymerase chain reaction-1Public health-1SARS-CoV-2-1Technology of membranes-1Technology of membranes-1UV radiation-1UV radiation-1https://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#3.03.08-1Emerging contaminants, SARS-COV-2 and wastewater treatment plants, new challenges to confront: A short reviewinfo:eu-repo/semantics/reviewreponame:CONCYTEC-Institucionalinstname:Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovacióninstacron:CONCYTEC20.500.12390/2996oai:repositorio.concytec.gob.pe:20.500.12390/29962024-05-30 16:12:57.37https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessmetadata only accesshttps://repositorio.concytec.gob.peRepositorio Institucional CONCYTECrepositorio@concytec.gob.pe#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#<Publication xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/1.1/" id="6407a8d5-73a9-4c77-bba9-8013c7776d86"> <Type xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/vocab/COAR_Publication_Types">http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_1843</Type> <Language>eng</Language> <Title>Emerging contaminants, SARS-COV-2 and wastewater treatment plants, new challenges to confront: A short review</Title> <PublishedIn> <Publication> <Title>Bioresource Technology Reports</Title> </Publication> </PublishedIn> <PublicationDate>2021</PublicationDate> <DOI>https://doi.org/10.1016/j.biteb.2021.100731</DOI> <SCP-Number>2-s2.0-85107974637</SCP-Number> <Authors> <Author> <DisplayName>Revilla Pacheco C.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08503" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Terán Hilares R.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp00576" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Colina Andrade G.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08502" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Mogrovejo-Valdivia A.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01190" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Pacheco Tanaka D.A.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08395" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> </Authors> <Editors> </Editors> <Publishers> <Publisher> <DisplayName>Elsevier Ltd</DisplayName> <OrgUnit /> </Publisher> </Publishers> <License>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/</License> <Keyword>Wastewater-based epidemiology</Keyword> <Keyword>Advanced oxidation process</Keyword> <Keyword>Advanced oxidation process</Keyword> <Keyword>Polymerase chain reaction</Keyword> <Keyword>Public health</Keyword> <Keyword>SARS-CoV-2</Keyword> <Keyword>Technology of membranes</Keyword> <Keyword>Technology of membranes</Keyword> <Keyword>UV radiation</Keyword> <Keyword>UV radiation</Keyword>
The current pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has put public health at risk, being wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) a potential tool in the detection, prevention, and treatment of present and possible future outbreaks, since this virus enters wastewater through various sources such as feces, vomit, and sputum.
