The parasite was identified based in the general morphology and surface ultrastructure of the young and mature trematodes using scanning electron microscopy. The digenetic trematodes were found in the intestine of 15 of 80 specimens (18.7%) of Brochis multiradiatus captured from two floodplain lakes of the Amazonas River, Department of Loreto, Peru and no clinical signs were observed in the parasitized organ. This is the first report of D. oxycephala parasitizing fish of the genus Brochis in the Amazon basin and the first to report this parasite infection in an ornamental fish from Peru. Given that international trade of ornamental fish is a major factor for transboundary spreading of fish parasites and taking account that Peru is the second largest exporter of the Amazonian countries, there is a fundamental need of constant monitoring for diagnosis and timely control of infections by digeneans in order to better prevent introduction in new environments, dissemination and future disease outbreaks.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica - ConcytecengSpringerBiologia (Poland)info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessPeixe OrnamentalAmazon River-1Amazon River-1Digenea-1https://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#4.01.02-1Morphology and surface ultrastructure of Dadaytrema oxycephala (Digenea: Cladorchiidae) with a new host record from Peruvian Amazon floodplaininfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlereponame:CONCYTEC-Institucionalinstname:Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovacióninstacron:CONCYTEC#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#20.500.12390/893oai:repositorio.concytec.gob.pe:20.500.12390/8932024-05-30 15:36:14.488http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessmetadata only accesshttps://repositorio.concytec.gob.peRepositorio Institucional CONCYTECrepositorio@concytec.gob.pe#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#<Publication xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/1.1/" id="d4fc7cb8-4235-41fb-950e-fbe3a6f1ab6f"> <Type xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/vocab/COAR_Publication_Types">http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_1843</Type> <Language>eng</Language> <Title>Morphology and surface ultrastructure of Dadaytrema oxycephala (Digenea: Cladorchiidae) with a new host record from Peruvian Amazon floodplain</Title> <PublishedIn> <Publication> <Title>Biologia (Poland)</Title> </Publication> </PublishedIn> <PublicationDate>2018</PublicationDate> <DOI>https://doi.org/10.2478/s11756-018-0072-z</DOI> <SCP-Number>2-s2.0-85047995448</SCP-Number> <Authors> <Author> <DisplayName>Cuadros R.C.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02353" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Rivadeneyra N.L.S.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02350" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Malta J.C.O.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02352" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Enrique Serrano-Martínez M.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02351" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Mathews P.D.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02354" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> </Authors> <Editors> </Editors> <Publishers> <Publisher> <DisplayName>Springer</DisplayName> <OrgUnit /> </Publisher> </Publishers> <Keyword>Peixe Ornamental</Keyword> <Keyword>Amazon River</Keyword> <Keyword>Amazon River</Keyword> <Keyword>Digenea</Keyword>
In this study, a new host record for Dadaytrema oxycephala (Digenea: Cladorchiidae) is described from an important Amazonian ornamental fish.
