Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the best techniques for the removal of pharmaceuticals from municipal and hospital wastewater. For this, a non-experimental, descriptive, qualitative– quantitative design was used, corresponding to a systematic review without meta-analysis. Based on established inclusion and exclusion criteria, 31 open-access articles were selected from the Scopus, ProQuest, EBSCOhost, and ScienceDirect databases. The results showed that high concentrations of analgesics such as naproxen (1.37 mg/L) and antibiotics such as norfloxacin (0.561 mg/L) are frequently found in wastewater and that techniques such as reverse osmosis, ozonation, and activated sludge have the best removal efficiency, achieving values of 99%. It was concluded that reverse osmosis is one of the most efficient techniques for eliminating ofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole, carbamazepine, and diclofenac from municipal wastewater, with removal rates ranging from 96 to 99.9%, while for hospital wastewater the activated sludge technique proved to be efficient, eliminating analgesics and antibiotics in the range of 41–99%.application/pdfengMDPIinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/TechniqueRemovalPharmaceuticalsWastewaterEfficiencyhttps://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#2.07.00Literature Review: Evaluation of Drug Removal Techniques in Municipal and Hospital Wastewaterinfo:eu-repo/semantics/article19124reponame:AUTONOMA-Institucionalinstname:Universidad Autónoma del Perúinstacron:AUTONOMAORIGINAL13_2022.pdf13_2022.pdfArtículoapplication/pdf3590804http://repositorio.autonoma.edu.pe/bitstream/20.500.13067/2588/1/13_2022.pdfbc02bec498a2c473e8c473ca10f7c2f8MD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-885http://repositorio.autonoma.edu.pe/bitstream/20.500.13067/2588/2/license.txt9243398ff393db1861c890baeaeee5f9MD52TEXT13_2022.pdf.txt13_2022.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain88612http://repositorio.autonoma.edu.pe/bitstream/20.500.13067/2588/3/13_2022.pdf.txtfd1588203ac1041d35d9ca2fdcb662eeMD53THUMBNAIL13_2022.pdf.jpg13_2022.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg7285http://repositorio.autonoma.edu.pe/bitstream/20.500.13067/2588/4/13_2022.pdf.jpg107f3e33ab807b2d6439147b83849dacMD5420.500.13067/2588oai:repositorio.autonoma.edu.pe:20.500.13067/25882023-09-21 03:00:24.251Repositorio de la Universidad Autonoma del Perúrepositorio@autonoma.peVG9kb3MgbG9zIGRlcmVjaG9zIHJlc2VydmFkb3MgcG9yOg0KVU5JVkVSU0lEQUQgQVVUw5NOT01BIERFTCBQRVLDmg0KQ1JFQVRJVkUgQ09NTU9OUw==
