The Covid-19 pandemic, popularly known as coronavirus, was announced in an article by the American Society of Microbiology that already in 2007 warned about the dangers of the consumption of exotic animals in different Chinese communities. The background of SARS and MERS helps us understand that humanity is not prepared for such severe contingencies. Economies are sold out and there is no leadership; health systems are deficient: the result of years of underinvestment, low salaries and lack of qualified personnel to attend, follow, control and direct infectious diseases.
La pandemia del Covid-19, popularmente conocido como coronavirus, fue anunciada en un artículo de laAmerican Society of Microbiology que ya en el 2007 alertaba sobre los peligros del consumo de animalesexóticos en las diferentes comunidades chinas. Los antecedentes del SARS y el MERS nos ayudanentender que la humanidad no está preparada para contingencias tan severas. Las economías se vendescontroladas y no existen liderazgos; los sistemas de salud son deficientes: resultado de años de faltade inversión, de salarios bajos y déficit de personal calificado para atender, seguir, controlar y dirigir lasenfermedades infecciosas.
