SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH OF YOUNG PEOPLE RESIDENTS IN A DISTRICT OF LIMA

OBJECTIVES: To determine Comas district youngsters both sexual and reproductive health conditions. DESIGN: Descriptive, exploratory and transversal study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In 2002, 92 Comas district 15 to 24 year-old youngsters were interviewed by a semi-structured questionnaire. RESULTS: Half of the youngsters having sexual relations used some type of contraception, having received information mainly from their teachers and the family; 75% of the youngsters did not attend a health establishment, but 11% had a Papanicolaou smear and 9% attended a general medicine service. CONCLUSION: The sexual and reproductive health conditions of the youngsters studied were acceptable.
OBJETIVOS: Determinar las condiciones de salud sexual y reproductiva de jóvenes de Comas, un distrito de Lima, en Perú. DISEÑO: Estudio descriptivo, exploratorio y de corte transversal. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio realizado el año 2002 en 92 jóvenes de 15 a 24 años del distrito de Comas, siendo la técnica empleada la entrevista personal, mediante un cuestionario semiestructurado. RESULTADOS: La mitad de todos los jóvenes que tiene relaciones sexuales emplea algún tipo de método anticonceptivo, siendo la persona que más le informó acerca de los métodos el profesor y, en segundo lugar, la familia. El 75% de los jóvenes no acudió a algún establecimiento de salud, mientras que 11% se realizó Papanicolaou y 9% acudió al servicio de medicina general. CONCLUSIÓN: Las condiciones de salud sexual y reproductiva del grupo de jóvenes estudiado son bastante aceptables.
