In recent years we have witnessed a movement of general interest in fetuses with intrauterine growth difficulties. The wake-up call which means Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR), for obstetricians, pediatricians, and Perinatologists, is highly justified, as it represents a high perinatal mortality (8 times higher than those of normal weight). Frequent acute and chronic fetal distress, the many dangers in the neonatal period, and possible subsequent subnormality, are listed in the growing research on this topic.
En los últimos años asistimos a un movimiento de interés general respecto a los fetos con dificultades en el crecimiento intrauterino. El llamado de atención que significa el Retardo del Crecimiento Intrauterino (R.C.I.U.), para los obstetras, pediatras, y perinatólogos, se encuentra altamente justificado, ya que éste representa una alta mortalidad perinatal (8 veces mayor que los de peso normal). El frecuente sufrimiento fetal agudo y crónico, los numerosos peligros en el periodo neonatal, y la posible subnormalidad posterior, se ven contemplados en las crecientes investigaciones sobre este tópico.
