Infertility due to salpingitis: demographic and clinical characteristic in patients attendend at Arzobispo Loayza Hospital

OBJECTIVE: To determine demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with infertility due to salpingitis. SETTING: Arzobispo Loayza Hospital, from January through June 2001. MATERIAL AND METODOS: Review of clinical registries of 77 patients with infertility due to salpingitis. RESULTS: Fifty-two patients (67%) were between 30 and 39 year-old; 54 (70%) began sexual relations beyond 18year old, 31 (40%) had only one sexual partner and 35 (40%) two; 18 (23%) had a previous episode of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and 30 (39%) pain and/or thickened adnexae. CONCLUSIONS: Most patients with infertility due to salpingitis do not present risk factors for PID or previous PID episodes. Diagnosis was done by infertility sequelae.
OBJETIVO: Determinar las características demográficas y clínicas de las pacientes con infertilidad tubárica. LUGAR: Hospital Arzobispo Loayza, entre enero y junio de 2001. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Se revisó las historias clínicas de 77 pacientes con infertilidad debida a salpingitis. RESULTADOS: Cincuenta y dos (67%) pacientes tenían entre 30 y 39 años; 54 (70%) pacientes iniciaron su actividad sexual después de los 18 años, 31 (40%) tuvieron sólo una pareja sexual y 35 (46%), dos. En 18 (23%) pacientes se encontró un episodio previo de enfermedad pélvica inflamatoria (EPI) y en 30 (39%) se evidenció dolor y/o anexos engrosados al examen pélvico. CONCLUSIONES: la mayoría de pacientes con infertilidad por salpingitis atendidas en el Hospital Arzobispo Loayza no suele tener hábitos de riesgo para EPI ha tenido sintomatología clínica de infección genital, habiéndose realizado el diagnóstico en forma retrospectiva, a través de las secuelas de infertilidad.
