Hormonal aspects of virilizing ovarian tumors

The author has studied four cases of masculinizing ovarian tumor; the age of the patients was between 25-35 years; all of them presented amenorrhea, acne, hirsutism and deepening of the voice, hypertrophy of the clitoris was present in two of the cases. The hormonal determinations revealed a normal excretion of the 17-Ketosteroids in three of them, and a slight increase in the remmanent; the urinary testosterone was increased in all the cases, reaching normal male levels in three of them. The author remarks the value of plasma and urinary testosterone determinations in the study of the virilizing ovarian tumors.
El autor ha estudiado cuatro casos de masculinizantes tumor de ovario; la edad de los pacientes fue de entre 25 a 35 años; todos ellos presentaron amenorrea, acné, hirsutismo y engrosamiento de la voz, la hipertrofia del clítoris estaba presente en dos de los casos. Las determinaciones hormonales revelaron una excreción normal del 17-cetosteroides en tres de ellos, y un ligero aumento en el remmanent; la testosterona urinaria se incrementó en todos los casos, alcanzando niveles masculinos normales en tres de ellos. El autor remarca el valor de las determinaciones plasmáticas de testosterona y urinaria en el estudio de los tumores ováricos virilizantes.
