Sumario:The caesarean section is increasing, especially in the US. UU. and it remains stable and lower in Europe, with the same perinatal outcomes. A retrospective study of cesarean section is performed at the Hospital of Tingo Maria from 1 January 1979 to 31 December 1992. In the 13 years served 21 252 1 520 births and caesarean sections. The four main indications were dystocia 34.73% 19.21% iterative cesarean section, fetal distress and breech 11.44% 9.27%. The incidence of cesarean 7.15% is similar to that of Japan, Belgium, Austria and Sweden, within the limits recommended by the Latin American Center for Perinatology and major indications have the same sequence as those reported, varying only in percentages.
