That is why our gynecologists and obstetricians colleagues should be familiar with the management of breast disease, not only in the tumor, but endocrine, infectious, aesthetics, etc., ie, in what has become known lately Mastology in order to give a broader sense, and the Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, assuming its role guiding our specialty, it is interested in promoting.
El tema "Mama Tumoral", es muy amplio, y requeriría muchas páginas para su desarrollo, por lo que trataré de hacer una revisión breve y panorámica. No escapa a nuestro entender, la intención de los organizadores, de abordar aspectos que sean de interés práctico, por lo que me parece oportuno resaltar que la dependencia endocrina de las glándulas mamarias a las hormonas ováricas, hacen de aquéllas parte integrante  del aparato genital femenino. Es por ello que nuestros colegas ginecólogos y obstetras deben estar familiarizados con el manejo de la patología mamaria, no sólo en el aspecto tumoral, sino endocrino, infeccioso, estético, etc., es decir, en lo que se ha venido a llamar últimamente Mastología, a fin de darle un más amplio sentido, y que la Sociedad de Obstetricia y Ginecología, asumiendo su rol orientador de nuestra especialidad, está interesada en promover.
