The misti identity in the Andes: notes for a debate

The present communication shows the social and ideological, bases that have contributed to what they call misti thought, i.e., the non-indigenous view of the landscape, culture and Andean society. Our hypothesis is that although their status as landowners or being related to them, provided them elements to explain the culture of the peasants, it represented a severe restriction because their social position presented them from developing an empathy toward their subjects narrated and an alternative for change from below.
La presente comunicación muestra las bases sociales e ideológicas que han contribuido a lo que denominaremos el pensamiento misti, es decir, una mirada no-indígena sobre el paisaje, la cultura y la sociedad andina. Nuestra hipótesis es que si bien su condición de terratenientes o el estar emparentados con ellos, les proporcionó elementos para explicar la cultura de los campesinos, también fue un severo límite, pues su posición social les impidió una verdadera empatía con sus sujetos narrados y una alternativa de cambio desde abajo.
