The objective of this article is to describe the variables that influence the academic achievement and its importance in the performance of the students. It describes the process of changes in the higher education during the last century, at global and national level. At the national level, the question is if whether these changes have improved the quality of college education. In the second part, it describes and analyzes the academic variables that influence the academic performance of the students. These variables have been validated in different researches, its knowledge and its study could bring an improving of college education.
El presente artículo tiene por objetivo dar a conocer cuáles son las variables académicas y la importancia de éstas en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes universitarios. Se describe de igual manera, el proceso de cambios de la educación superior en el último siglo, tanto a nivel mundial como nacional. A nivel nacional, se cuestiona si estos cambios han favorecido la calidad de la educación universitaria. En la segunda parte, se describen y analizan las variables académicas que influyen en el rendimiento de los estudiantes universitarios. Estas variables han sido validadas en diferentes investigaciones y su conocimiento y estudio puede contribuir en la mejora de la educación superior universitaria.
