This case study is a summary of the dissertation submitted to obtain my Master's Degree in Media, Culture and Identityfrom the University of Roehampton, London. This work explores and analyses a Peruvian television cookery programmecalled 20 Lucas, in which recognized Peruvian chefs are invited to cook a meal for four people using a budget of up to 20soles, so they have to go to popular markets and interact with the market sellers. The study has three main aims: to describehow Andean people are normally portrayed in Peruvian media, to decide whether the representation of local Andeanmarket traders in 20 Lucas remains similar to such representation, and to explore what the possible effects of 20 Lucas'portrayal of Andean people might be in Peruvian society in relation to the discrimination problem.The research was motivated by the possible lack of realistic representation on Peruvian tele...

In the last few years, despite major breakthroughs in the access to information and education,the representation of women in the media seems to have remained in a stereotyped image ofold. A particular example of this appears in telenovelas, which constitute a crucial element in theformation of women’s identity, but tend to suggest images ranging in an easily identifiable “good/evil” binomial, without regard for a person’s complex nuances. However, there are examplesshowing an attempt to move beyond such frames. One of them is the Colombian telenovelaEl último matrimonio feliz (The last happy marriage), starting from a social fact (the increasingnumber of failing marriages) to portray, in a more realistic way, women who have to overcomesuch a situation.

El nuevo siglo y las nuevas tecnologías de la información y comunicación han generado un cambio en la forma como la información periodística puede llegar alpúblico: de los medios tradicionales que centralizan la fuente de información, se ha pasado a los medios virtuales que pueden transmitirla en segundos. El presenteartículo propone una serie de razones por las que se está dando esta transición y toma una posición crítica frente el surgimiento del periodismo ciudadano ayudado por la tecnología en cuanto a su calidad, sus aspectos subyacentes y hacia dónde debería orientarse.
