The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) to improve first level students’ performance in general chemistry at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, Iquitos, 2021. The study was of an evaluative type with field study, transversal contemporary, univariate and quasi-experimental designs. The population consisted of 103 students with a sample of 70 first-level students, enrolled in the subject of General Chemistry I; 37 students in the experimental group and 33 students in the control group. Post test results show that the experimental group outperformed the control group as their mean score was higher (12.678 ? 8.333) on a scale of 20.
