We have studied the therapeutic action of streptomycin and isoniazid in experimental guinea pig tuberculosis. One group was treated from the day of being inoculated with isoniazid, and sacrificed at 30 days. Two other groups were treated 30 days after being infected with streptomycin or isoniazid. and slaughtered at 60 days of infection. Inoculated guinea pigs served as controls for these experiments. The most significant events are: absence of nodule at the site of inoculation, and no injuries generalization in receptive treaty bodies the day after being inoculated group. In animals treated late, cheesy lesions in the satellite nodule inoculation and lymph, experienced no changes to account, but injuries generalization in receptive organs were discrete, and to a lesser extent than observed in controls. In all treated animals. tuberculin sensitivity significantly decreased, disappearing ...

The characters of experimental tuberculosis, are not strictly similar to human tuberculosis, contrasts clinical and pathological order are evident and they depend of course on the carrying capacity of the experimental animal, the number of bacilli inoculated, their virulence , of the inoculation route and the exact knowledge of the time of infection. This method despite the drawbacks noted, is the only one that allows the investigation of serial biological changes caused by the disease and its relation to pathological findings; It is the method currently used for therapeutic and toxic tuberculostatic assessment of new substances

The analysis of epidemiological indices in Peru, indicates that tuberculosis is a Public Health problem. Given the simplicity of tuberculosis control techniques, programmes could be developed to form an integral part of the Public Health Servide, thereby protecting a large percentage of the population nithout increasing of costs invelved. Expensive chemotherapeutic regimens for tuberculosis are effective and would be suitable for use in private practice. Fortunately, there are low costs regimens of low toxicity and high efficacy that can be standardized an applied on a country widw and permanent basis. According to the observation of the former tuberculosis dispensaries, now Health Centers, the results with the patients who took the drugs regularly were favourable in over 93% of the cases. Nevertheless the failure to attend for treatment has a serious effect on these ex...
