The main objective of the present study is to systematize an experience of a research-based  reading assessment of two middle school students from a public school in Manhattan, New York during the Fall 2022. In order to select the assessment tests, I asumed the Science of Reading along with the Simple View of Reading perspectives. The tests applied addresed to assess students in three aspects: decoding, fluency, and encoding (spelling). Results showed that, in a nutshell, students are reading below their grade; nevertheless, the fact that they are Colombian inmigrants living one year in the U.S., may explain their results on the assessment tests. In the discussion section, I put into perspective the student’s assessments’ results with their context and personal background in order to have a broader understanding of their reading skills. El trabajo que presentamos a continuación se centra en el estudio de la novela epistolar peruana del año 1843, Lima de aquí a cien años, y se enfoca específicamente en las epístolas enviadas desde Lima. Se pretende demostrar que esta novela, más allá de un fin estético, busca transmitir a sus lectores ideas políticas que los convenzan y los lleven a tomar acciones sobre temas políticos y la forma en que debe conducirse el gobierno. No obstante, también haremos notar la contradicción que se suscita entre la forma en cómo el autor sienta las bases para el cambio afortunado del destino del Perú y cómo estas bases requieren un sustrato a partir del cual sería imposible que se dé un cambio por ser este sustrato de índole sobrenatural. Estos estudios irán acompañados de reflexiones acerca de la modernidad que serán necesarias para comprender el contexto de la novela y pod...
