The aim of this study was to determine the association of fascioliasis with the breeding of animals, housing characteristics and food consumption of children in the district of Santa María de Chicmo, Apurimac, Peru. Serological samples were taken from 493 children aged 6 to 16 years, males and females, with the informed consent of their parents. The prevalence, determined by the immunoblot technique was 5.3% (95% CI = 3.2% -7.4%, 26/493). The univariate analysis showed that the breeding of cattle and cats, and raising three or more pigs were factors associated with fascioliasis. The breeding of more than five sheep resulted as a protection factor. Fascioliasis in children was not associated with the characteristics of the dwellings or the consumption of food. It is concluded that the district of Santa María de Chicmo is mesoendemic for fascioliasis in children, and that the rearing of ...

The aim of the study was to determine the knowledge, practices and attitudes associated with clinical signs related to cystic echinococcosis in students and teachers of secondary education in the district of Huancarama, department of Apurímac, Peru, an endemic area of this parasitosis. The research was at basic level, with an analytical and cross-sectional design. The corresponding informed consent and assent were obtained. The clinical signs, knowledge, practices and attitudes regarding cystic echinococcosis, as well as the nutritional status and haemoglobin values of the participants were determined. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar los factores asociados al loxoscelismo cutáneo-visceral en niños por mordedura de araña Loxosceles laeta. La investigación fue retrospectiva, observacional y longitudinal. La muestra correspondió a todos los pacientes menores de 20 años de edad atendidos en el Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño (n=74), que fueron transferidos de establecimientos de salud del país de menor complejidad con diagnóstico de mordedura de araña L. laeta entre los años 2010 al 2018. Se contrastaron las variables categóricas con el Chi cuadrado y el Odds ratio con un intervalo de confianza al 95%. The aim of the study was to identify the association between dog aggression and bites to people. A survey was conducted using the Dodman and William Campbell methodologies. In total, 400 interviews were conducted with dog owners, randomly sampling four households per block in the city of Abancay, Peru. The study only included crossbred dogs, males and females between 1-4 years old. Results showed that 67.3% (95%CI: 62.5-71.9) of the dogs had ever bitten a person. The causes of aggression associated with bites were when the dog was cornered or chased (OR=6.1; 95% CI: 1.1-33.4; p=0.036), when the dog hides toys and other objects (OR=7.6; 95% CI: 1.6-36.2; p=0.011), when the dog growls if it is eating or resting (OR=6.8; 95% CI: 1.5-30.5; p=0.013) and when the dog stands on two legs on top of the owner (OR=24.9; 95% CI; 5.7-109.3; p=0.000). The aim of this study was to determine the association of fasciolosis in school-age children with intestinal parasites, food consumption and animal husbandry. The research was analytical, prospective, cross-sectional, and relational. In total, 295 serological and stool samples were obtained, and an epidemiological interview was carried out on children of both sexes, aged 3 to 19 years from 23 institutions of initial, primary and secondary education, with the informed consent of their parents. The serological diagnosis was made using the IgG immunoblot technique and the IgG ELISA test and the stool diagnosis was made with the rapid sedimentation technique modified by Lumbreras.
