Fasciolasis is a disease that causes economic losses in the livestock sector, with an estimated value of 3,000 million dollars annually worldwide, it is caused by Fasciola hepatica Linnaeus, 1758, which causes serious liver damage to grazing animals. This disease needs an intermediate host, who can only be the mollusks of the Lymnaeidae family and a definitive host (grazing animals or man). The objective of the research was to identify the Lymneid mollusks transmitting F. hepatica in San Martín of the Columbe parish, Chimborazo province, Ecuador to describe the morphological characteristics of the mollusks, establish the characteristics of the biotopes and determine the prevalence of both in mollusks infested with larval stages of the parasite, cattle parasitized with F. hepatica. A field sampling was carried out and information was collected to characterize the biotope, the morphologic...

Fasciolosis is a zoonosis caused by the parasite Fasciola hepatica Linnaeus, 1758, which, in order to develop its biological cycle, requires an intermediate host (gastropod mollusk, Lymnaeidae), and a definitive host (mammals, including man). This disease has caused annual economic losses of $ 200 M in the world. The objective of the present investigation was; to identify the prevalence of F. hepatica in the bovine slaughter centers, to determine the economic losses, and to identify the agroecological characteristics where the intermediate hosts develop, in the province of Imbabura, Ecuador. A prevalence of F. hepatica of 10,9% was identified, where the Cantón Otavalo presented 190 positive samples (19,7%), being considered the point with the highest prevalence within the study. The positive bovines were 102 males (26,9%) and 277 females (73,1%), which belong to the Mestizo (53,5%), Hol...

The aim of this study was to determine the rest time of Savoy grass (Panicum maximum) and Brachiaria (Brachiaria brizanta) with three types of equalization cut and four rest times or days after the equalization cut. The research was carried out in Luz de América, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas province, Ecuador, during the dry season. The pastures were 7 years old, and the study factors were the grass varieties (Saboya and Brachiaria), types of cut (Machete, Scythe and Tractor) and days after the equalization cut (21, 28, 35 and 42 days). In total, 24 treatments with four repetitions each. The same management was carried out in all treatments (weed control, fertilization and initial cutting). Data collection was weekly, from days 21 to 42, using a quadrant of 1 m2. Plant height, green matter production, dry matter yield, bromatological analysis (protein, fat, ash, fibre and nitrogen-fr...
