Neonatal encephalopathy (HIE) is a clinical syndrome of neurological dysfunction, with symptoms ranging from mild irritability to coma and seizures, contributing significantly to global disability. In developed countries, it occurs in 2-3 per 1000 full-term births, with higher incidence in low- and middle-income regions. The primary treatment is hypothermia, although it only improves outcomes in 50% of cases. Recent studies focus on alternative therapeutic options such as nanomedicine to address oxidative stress, mitochondrial failure, excitotoxicity, and apoptosis associated with HIE. Objective: The aim of the present work was to conduct a literature review on smartphone dependence and its relationship with sleep quality and academic performance. Methods: It was a narrative review. The scientific search was carried out in databases such as Scopus, Pudmed, Web of Science, and in indexed and high-impact journals, using English descriptors such as AND, OR, among others. Abstrac: Obesity is a global health problem affecting 1.5 billion adults worldwide, including children and adolescents, resulting in increased physical and mental health issues. Obese individuals are at higher risk of developing metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, as well as malignant tumors, resulting in higher mortality rates. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is widely used in bariatric surgery to reduce mortality. Although sleeve gastrectomy induces anatomical changes and weight loss, there is still a lack of long-term evidence on its effectiveness. A clinical case of a patient with grade II obesity is shared. Ventral hernia, characterized by abnormal protrusion of abdominal contents through a defect in the abdominal wall, is a common condition whose prevalence is increasing due to population aging and the obesity epidemic. We present the case of an 88-year-old patient with multiple comorbidities, including pulmonary thromboembolism, Parkinson's disease, and chronic venous insufficiency, who was diagnosed with a recurrent complex incarcerated ventral hernia and underwent hernioplasty using the Rives-Stoppa technique with synthetic mesh. The procedure was performed without complications, and the patient was discharged two days later. This case highlights the importance of advanced surgical techniques and preoperative evaluation in patients at high risk for complications.
