En la actualidad, los mercados digitales resultan claves para la economía mundial y, a raíz de las recientes fusiones ejecutadas por los gigantes de este mercado (Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google y Microsoft), empieza a existir una creciente preocupación en torno a la concentración y poder de mercado que se dan en el mundo digital. Dado este contexto, el propósito de este trabajo es analizar los efectos del control de fusiones en los mercados digitales. Para ello, se revisan las características de estos mercados, las Theories of Harm que más se discuten en torno a las fusiones en estos y por qué el control de fusiones está sujeto a errores en la actualidad y hay una baja aplicación de la ley en estas fusiones. Purpose. This paper aims to identify what are the moderating factors affecting the relationship between firms’ adoption of international financial and reporting standards (IFRS) and the firm’s opacity. Design/methodology/approach. This study uses the meta-analysis methodology from Hunter et al. (1982) to find if the mere IFRS adoption reduces firm’s opacity and a meta-regression from Stanley and Jarrell (1989) to identify the moderating factors that may influence this relationship. Findings. Contrary to previous studies, this study finds a low, negative and nonsignificant correlation between IFRS adoption and firms’ opacity, but this relationship depends on the geographical region.
