Root canal calcification is characterized by the deposit of mineralized tissue along the canal walls, it is usually asymptomatic and is detected incidentally during a radiographic examination. Teeth that suffer from this process may develop apical periodontitis over time and consequently require endodontic treatment. The pulp chamber and root canal space may be partially or completely obliterated, increasing the risk of procedural errors during root canal preparation. With the advent of cone beam computed tomography (HCCT), teeth can be visualized three-dimensionally, and the superimposition of anatomical structures is eliminated. This review aims to present the considerations for the diagnosis and management of calcified root canals.
