Manuel González Prada, known to be an enemy of the aristocraticrepublic, accepted in 1912, under Augusto B. Leguía, to become the directorof the National Library. This article tries to explain this apparentcontradiction. He never mixed with the "protruding venters" he had beenso critical of. After the coup d' etat de O. R. Benavides he resigned andrisked his life with the editing of La Lucha. These almost forgotten articlesare here studied. Under his scrutiny we see the military exposed in all itsstupidity. His big words reach his civil successor, José Pardo "agermanofilus cretin". Against any circumstance, Prada maintained hisideals of freedom alive.
